Motorola Flipout is a new Swivel type Android phone from Motorola which was announced in July 2010 and now available in stores. Motorola Flipout with Motoblur (which is a custom UI for Android phone from Motorola) is a smartphone with full touchscreen and a rotating type QWERTY pad. The design of Flipout is definitely one of the best areas of the phone, the unique swivel type rotating phone hinged at one corner has 5 rows of keys.

Flipout has a dimension of 67 x 67 x 17 mm and is one of the entry level Android phones. It neatly holds up in the hand, although the odd width could be an issue while on calls. The device has landscape 2.8-inch capacitive TFT touch-screen with a resolution of 320×240 pixels.

On the connectivity side, Flipout comes with 3G (HSDPA 7.2 Mbps;HSUPA 2.0 Mbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth version 2.1 + EDR.

Motorola FLIPOUT runs a customized version Android 2.1 with MOTOBLUR integrated. Although it runs Android 2.1, the screen size is limiting the functionality of Android.

Once open, the Motorola FLIPOUT’s five row QWERTY keyboard is neatly arranged with a four-way d-pad in the bottom left. Although the position of d-pad is not the best one, but still manages to do the task pretty neatly. The keys illuminate well when used and are clearly marked. The QWERTY pad is one of the most useful areas of the Flipout and Motorola has done a remarkable work with the keypad.

It comes with a 3 MP (with Kodak Perfect Touch) camera and also enables users to record videos. The camera is only a basic one, but pretty decent for its price.

The Motorola FLIPOUT has a 600Mhz processor with 512MB of RAM and comes  with the 1170mAh battery delivering 5.95 hours talk time and 365 hours of standby time.

Overall Flipout is a neatly designed phone which comes with lots of features and also has multimedia capabilities. The screen (QVGA) is one area would could be a problem when it comes to Android market. The QWERTY pad is one of the best available on a smartphone.

Flipout is available in India starting November first week and is priced at around Rs. 15300 INR. At this price, there are many other Android phones including the ones from HTC, Samsung Galaxy 3 and also the X10 Mini and XPERIA X8 and what makes Flipout different is the design.
